A new development has occurred in the health status of YENİ Party MP Melih Meriç, who has been receiving intensive care treatment at Gaziantep City Hospital following a knife attack in Gaziantep.
It has been decided that Meriç, whose condition is reported to have worsened, will be transferred to Koç University Hospital in Istanbul via an air ambulance. It was reported that efforts are underway to bring the air ambulance to the city for the transfer.
ARRESTS FOLLOWING THE ATTACK
The incident took place on Street No. 190007 in the İbni Sina neighborhood of the Şahinbey district. Meriç was critically injured in a knife attack by Seydi Ahmet Keleş, who was previously the CHP Oğuzeli District Chairman and later joined the YENİ Party with him.
It had been reported that Meriç, who was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery, was being kept sedated in intensive care. While Keleş and his son were arrested following the attack, 3 other individuals were released under judicial control conditions.
In his statement to the police, the suspect Keleş claimed that Meriç had promised him a district chairmanship in the YENİ Party but that this did not materialize; he alleged that he injured the MP while trying to defend himself during the fight that broke out between them.
