YÖK launches investigation into Naci İnci!

The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has launched an investigation into the appointed Rector of Boğaziçi University, Prof. Dr. Naci İnci, and the university administration, following their decision to block students who protested against a restructuring plan from entering the campus.

10 STUDENTS BLOCKED FROM ENTERING THE SCHOOL

According to a report by Fırat Fıstık from Sözcü newspaper, the Boğaziçi University Rectorate made a decision to restructure the faculties. Students and academics reacted to this decision. Both a press statement and a forum were organized against the separation of the faculties. 10 students who participated in these protests and statements were blocked from entering the school. The students' ID cards were canceled. The school administration did not provide any explanation regarding this restriction.

Following this move, the students filed a criminal complaint through their lawyers. The students, who gathered at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, had made a statement. Speaking during the statement, Berkay Morkan said, “With the strength we draw from our fellow students, we know very well how to resist these policies that attempt to suppress our demand for a democratic university. We do not accept in any way that our friends are arbitrarily barred from entering the campus.”

INVESTIGATION INTO THE RECTOR AND ADMINISTRATION

The ongoing investigation also reached YÖK. Following the students' objections and the file at the prosecutor's office, YÖK decided to launch an investigation into Boğaziçi University Rector Prof. Dr. Naci İnci and the administration. 

As a result of the protests at Boğaziçi University that have been ongoing for three years, the sanctions imposed by the rectorate will be examined by YÖK for the first time upon the students' objections.
