The statement read, "Criminal complaints have been filed today with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against individuals and institutions that have put forward and continue to spread baseless and unfounded claims in some media outlets and social media platforms that there are '400 academics with fake diplomas,' aimed at devaluing our higher education institutions and our distinguished scientists.

From now on, criminal complaints will also be filed against those who make baseless news and posts," it was stated.

While the fake diploma scandal has occupied Turkey's agenda, the claim that there are 400 people among academics who hold 'fake diplomas' has been widely discussed by both the opposition and the public.

YÖK denied the allegations and announced that they would file criminal complaints against those who put them forward.
