YRP mayoral candidate who lost election walks toward MHP deputy: Throws flowers
During the handover ceremony for MHP's Efdal Altundal, who won the election in the Kaynaşlı district of Düzce, Birol Şahin, the former mayor from the New Welfare Party (YRP) who lost the municipal election, argued with MHP Bolu Deputy İsmail Akgül. Şahin, who walked toward Deputy Akgül while shouting profanities and insults, threw flowers at the deputy.

In the March 31 Local Administration General Elections, MHP candidate Efdal Altundal won the election in the Kaynaşlı district of Düzce against the New Welfare Party (YRP) candidate and incumbent Mayor Birol Şahin by a margin of 894 votes.
Following the election, a handover ceremony was held at the Kaynaşlı Mayor's Office. The ceremony was attended by the winner Efdal Altundal, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Bolu Deputy İsmail Akgül, and party members.

During his speech at the handover ceremony, Şahin touched upon the process of his expulsion from his party. Deputy Akgül intervened regarding Şahin's remarks about MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, stating that he did not find the expressions appropriate. Upon this, Şahin shouted "Who are you?" and hurled profanities and insults at Akgül. Şahin then stood up, threw a flower from the table at İsmail Akgül, and continued his verbal abuse while walking toward him. Those moments were captured on camera, and the incident ended when those in the room intervened.
Following the incident, the handover ceremony continued and was completed.
"WE HAVE STARTED THE ERA OF SERVICE"
Sharing a photo taken in Altundal's office, Akgül stated, "We have taken over our municipality. By closing the era of ignorance in our Kaynaşlı district, we have started the era of service. We will teach you about being Muslim and being just."
WHY WAS BİROL ŞAHİN EXPELLED FROM THE MHP?
Birol Şahin's following post on his social media account after the A National Women's Volleyball Team qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games had caused a backlash:
"You will defy Allah Almighty's command to cover up so that your body contours are not visible, you will expose yourself, and then you will rejoice saying we are going to Tokyo. What does it matter if you become world champion? A Muslim woman possesses modesty and shame; she seeks Allah's approval in everything she does. According to our religion, women can play sports among themselves. Not in the presence of men, scantily clad."
Upon the instructions of MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, Şahin had been removed from the party's list of mayors.
