Mehmet Altınöz, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) mayoral candidate for the New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi), which closed its doors to an alliance with the AKP in the local elections, was subjected to censorship by TGRT Haber, a channel known for its proximity to the government.

Journalist Cem Küçük announced that YRP's Mehmet Altınöz would be a guest on the Günaydın Türkiye program, which he hosts on TGRT Haber.

In a post on his personal social media account, Küçük stated, "There is only 1 day left until the election. Let us remind you. Today, the New Welfare Party's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayoral Candidate Mr. Mehmet Altınöz will be our guest at 09:20."

Despite announcing it on TGRT's official social media channels and during the live broadcast, the channel canceled the appearance, informing Altınöz that he could not be hosted and that it was not possible for him to appear on the program.

'YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STOP THE NEW WELFARE PARTY'

Reacting to the events, the New Welfare Party issued the following statement:

"Our Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayoral Candidate and Deputy Chairman Mr. Mehmet Altınöz was invited to the Günaydın Türkiye program hosted by Cem Küçük on TGRT Haber this morning at 09:20.

When Mr. Altınöz arrived at the channel, he was informed that he could not be hosted and that it was not possible for him to appear on the program.

Let it be known that; no embargo or restriction will be enough to stop the New Welfare Party, which is breaking membership records and preparing to take over local governments all across Turkey.

Perception operations and embargoes against our party have been continuing at full speed recently. Such restrictions have no resonance with our nation. The New Welfare Party will come to power from local governments in the March 31 elections, for which it has prepared with the motto of Ethical Municipalism, and will continue on its path by growing stronger as it takes over Turkey's most important municipalities."
