YSK has made its decision: How will 'iftar' be handled during the election?
The Supreme Election Council (YSK) has issued a statement regarding 'iftar' due to the fact that the March 31 Local Administration General Elections coincide with the month of Ramadan. Explaining when polling station officials should break their fast, the YSK cited the Law on Basic Provisions of Elections and Voter Registers.

In a letter sent to the Supreme Election Council (YSK) by the Bahçe District Election Board Presidency, it was stated that counting and tallying procedures would begin at 17:00 by ballot box committees, but that "a healthy vote count could not be conducted" if the fast were broken only with water, and asked "whether ballot box committee members could take a short break at the time of iftar."
Reviewing the matter, the YSK recalled that the first paragraph of Article 100 of the Law on Basic Provisions of Elections and Voter Registers No. 298, titled "Opening of envelopes, counting and tallying of votes," contains the provision: 'The counting and tallying of votes shall begin immediately and shall be conducted openly and without interruption.'
Pointing out that the same regulation is also included in the YSK's Circular No. 138 on the Duties and Authorities of Ballot Box Committees, the council decided unanimously that "vote counting and tallying procedures must be conducted without interruption."
