Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir, daughter of former Turkish Red Crescent President Kerem Kınık, deposited 500 thousand TL via PTT despite the fact that Hasret Doğan, the mother of the 17-year-old deceased Batın Barlasçeki, had clearly expressed that she did not want it. This information was included in the petition submitted by the defendant's lawyers to the Istanbul Anatolian 8th High Criminal Court.
In the accident that occurred on July 9, 2024, Barlasçeki lost his life, and three people were injured. After being held in custody for one night, Demir was tried without arrest and was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison on May 26. The court did not suspend the sentence and decided that there was no room for the deferment of the announcement of the verdict (HAGB). Additionally, her driver's license was confiscated for 2 years, and judicial control measures were applied. The file is still in the appellate stage.
Speaking to BirGün, mother Hasret Doğan said:
"They wanted to give money many times, but even though I did not accept it, they forcibly deposited money as they pleased under the name of non-pecuniary damages. I do not accept this money they sent to escape punishment. My fight for justice will continue until the end. I want society to support this case."
On the other hand, the father, Serdal Barlasçeki, and the motorcycle driver injured in the accident, Yavuz Selim Öztürk, had withdrawn their complaints with the petitions they submitted to the court.
