Zeren Ertaş laid to rest: 'My daughter smelled so sweet'
Zeren Ertaş, a 22-year-old student at Adnan Menderes University who lost her life in a malfunctioning elevator at the KYK dormitory where she was staying in Aydın the other night, was laid to rest in Pendik, Istanbul, amidst tears. At the funeral, the tears of her mother, Serpil Ertaş, and Zeren's friends flowed like a river.

Zeren Ertaş, the 22-year-old daughter of Akın and Serpil Ertaş, lost her life in a malfunctioning elevator at the Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK) dormitory where she was staying while studying as a 4th-year student in the Department of International Relations at Aydın Adnan Menderes University. After the procedures in Aydın were completed, her body was handed over to her family.
The funeral of Zeren Ertaş was brought to the Pendik Kurtköy Central Mosque in Istanbul to be laid to rest. Mother Serpil Ertaş wept as she embraced her daughter's coffin. Her friends, who did not leave Zeren alone on her final journey, were also unable to hold back their tears.

The grieving mother cried out after her daughter, saying, "My daughter smelled so sweet. There wasn't a book she hadn't read. She read so many books. She even took a bunch of books with her when she left. What am I going to do now?"
The funeral was attended by Pendik District Governor Mehmet Yıldız, Pendik Mayor Ahmet Cin, Pendik District Police Chief Murat Milletsever, CHP Chair Candidate Özgür Özel, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik, as well as Zeren Ertaş's friends and family members.
