Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality brought smiles to farmers' faces in 2023 with the support it provided to agriculture and livestock. Implementing dozens of projects, primarily diesel, fertilizer, seed, and fruit sapling support, the Metropolitan Municipality brought 120 thousand decares of idle land in Kocaeli back into agricultural production with support worth 236 million 210 thousand TL.
FARMERS LEAVE BEHIND A PRODUCTIVE YEAR
Within the scope of agricultural support, which is one of Kocaeli's important rural development initiatives carried out across the province by the Agricultural Services Branch Directorate of the Department of Headman Affairs, 18 projects worth 236 million 210 thousand TL were implemented in 2023. With the support provided, 120 thousand decares of idle land in Kocaeli were brought back into agriculture. With the Metropolitan Municipality's agricultural support, farmers have left behind a bountiful and productive year.
2 MILLION 900 THOUSAND LITERS OF DIESEL PROVIDED
This year, 2 million 900 thousand liters of diesel, fully granted, were provided to 16 thousand 500 farmers, and 1 thousand 350 tons of forage crop seeds and 3 thousand 50 tons of fertilizer were provided to 3 thousand 200 farmers with a 50 percent grant. In addition, within the framework of the "Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Cultivation Project" (TABİP), approximately 5 million rosemary, medicinal mint, and lemon balm seedlings were planted on an area of 1 thousand 140 decares. Providing a lifeline to farmers with dozens of agricultural supports such as modern greenhouse installation, fruit saplings, free-range egg chickens, breeding buffalo, and beekeeping, the Metropolitan Municipality ensured the continuity of agriculture by providing all kinds of support to cooperatives and unions. Finally, in order to ensure the cold chain in milk and support milk hygiene, 50 percent grant-supported milk cooling tanks were provided to cooperatives and unions. An international workshop was organized to develop agriculture and produce joint projects.
Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality has provided support to agriculture and farmers by implementing 66 agricultural projects worth 643 million 707 thousand liras in the 5-year period between 2019-2023.
