3.2 billion in GSS debt to be wiped out

With the enactment of the legislative proposal known as the 11th Judicial Package, it has been decided to wipe out unpaid general health insurance (GSS) premium debts from before January 1, 2016. This regulation will allow for the waiver of low-amount debts that citizens were unable to pay for various reasons or had forgotten. A total of 3.2 billion liras in debt will be wiped out, and the debts of approximately 1.5 million people who have not made payments will be eliminated.
LEGISLATIVE BILL ON THE TBMM AGENDA
The 11th Judicial Package, which will be submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly in the coming days, aims to make amendments to the Turkish Penal Code and various other laws. Within this scope, regulations such as the wiping out of GSS premium debts will also be included.
GOOD NEWS FOR 1.5 MILLION PEOPLE
Under the regulation, the collection of unpaid GSS premiums from the period before January 1, 2016, as well as ancillary receivables such as late payment interest and penalties, will be waived. With this step, the 3.2 billion lira debt of 1 million 477 thousand people will be wiped out.
REGULATION TO BE ENACTED BEFORE THE NEW YEAR
The wiping out of low-amount GSS debts that citizens were unable to pay for various reasons or had forgotten will be ensured. This regulation is expected to be enacted before the new year. Furthermore, the regulation aims to alleviate the debt burden on the social security system by providing convenience for citizens who have difficulty making payments.
