The August report announced by Şemsi Bayraktar, Chairman of the Union of Turkish Chambers of Agriculture (TZOB), revealed the extent of price increases in agricultural products. According to the report, the prices of 30 out of 37 basic agricultural products in markets rose. Notably, while the price of carrots from the producer was 11 TL, it rose to as high as 47.88 TL in markets, creating a price difference of 335 percent.
In August, the price increase most felt by consumers occurred in green beans at 56 percent. Conversely, dry onions were the product with the largest price decline, falling by 9 percent. This situation increased the cost of the consumer's food basket.
When producer prices are examined, price increases were observed in 19 out of 29 products. While green beans drew attention with a 152.9 percent increase at the producer level, lemons were the product that declined the most with a 44.6 percent drop.
The report stated that the product with the largest price difference between the producer and the market was carrots. While carrots were 11 TL in the field, they were sold for 47.88 TL in the market. This difference was followed by zucchini, lemons, eggplants, and green peppers.
TZOB Chairman Bayraktar also drew attention to the rising costs for producers. Increases in the prices of urea fertilizer and DAP fertilizer are making it difficult for farmers to maintain production. Although diesel prices fell on a monthly basis, the annual increase was recorded at 21.8 percent.
Bayraktar also explained the reasons for the price fluctuations. While price drops in products such as onions, potatoes, and parsley stem from overproduction and supply-demand imbalances, increases in products such as green beans, cucumbers, and eggplants are due to a decrease in supply as the season ends.
