4.4 percent increase in natural gas imports

The "Natural Gas Market Sector Report" for December of last year by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority has been published. According to the report, Turkey's natural gas imports increased by 4.4 percent in December of last year compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 6 billion 63 million 120 thousand cubic meters.
Of the total imports, 3 billion 767 million 670 thousand cubic meters were supplied via pipelines, and 2 billion 295 million 450 thousand cubic meters were supplied through liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities. Thus, total natural gas imports increased by 4.4 percent during this period to 6 billion 63 million 120 thousand cubic meters.
The highest volume of natural gas imports in December of last year came from Russia with 2 billion 123 million 540 thousand cubic meters, followed by Azerbaijan with 962 million 20 thousand cubic meters and Iran with 781 million 490 thousand cubic meters. During this period, 1 billion 176 million 770 thousand cubic meters of LNG were imported from the USA.
GAS CONSUMPTION IN RESIDENCES INCREASED
Total natural gas consumption in the country increased by 0.68 percent on an annual basis in December of last year, reaching approximately 5 billion 267 million 120 thousand cubic meters. Natural gas consumption in residences increased by 9 percent during this period, reaching 2 billion 273 million 960 thousand cubic meters.
Natural gas consumption in the industrial sector was recorded at 1 billion 206 million 610 thousand cubic meters, an increase of 13.7 percent. Natural gas consumption in power plants decreased by 35 percent to 741 million 800 thousand cubic meters.
INCREASE IN STOCK QUANTITY
The amount of natural gas stocks in Turkey rose by 2.02 percent in December compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 5 billion 442 million cubic meters. Of the natural gas stocks, 5 billion 141 million cubic meters are held in underground storage facilities, while 300 million cubic meters are held in LNG terminals.
