Central Registry Agency (MKK) data revealed that the total number of investors in the stock markets decreased by 435 thousand 429 people between the close of Friday, December 22, and the close of Monday, December 25. The data also showed that the total equity market value decreased by 520 billion lira.

While the volatile course in the stock markets continued as alternative investment instruments strengthened in the last quarter, the Christmas holiday of foreign investors in the last week of the year made things difficult for Borsa Istanbul. The movement in the indices, which experienced heavy losses on the first trading day of the week, also negatively affected the number of investors and the equity market value.

ONE-DAY LOSS

According to MKK data, while the number of investors in the stock markets was 8 million 486 thousand 149 on December 22, it indicated that this figure fell to 8 million 50 thousand 720 at the close of Monday, December 25. This shows that 435 thousand 429 investors left the stock market in one day. The equity market value, which was 10.13 trillion lira on Friday, December 22, fell to 9.61 trillion lira at the Monday close. This is an indicator that the one-day loss reached 520 billion lira.

According to MKK data, the number of stock investors reached a record level of 8.56 million as of October 31. While this figure fell to 8.22 million people at the end of November, it dropped to 8.05 million as of December 22. In addition to the heavy loss experienced in one day, half a million people left the stock market at the end of two months.

While the equity market value was 11.28 trillion lira at the end of September, it fell to 10.65 trillion lira at the end of November. As of December 25, this figure had declined to 9.61 trillion lira. At the end of August, the equity market value was at the 9.59 trillion lira level. As of December 25, the levels returned to those of the end of August. At that time, the number of investors was at the 6.26 million person level.
