Garanti BBVA Leasing has implemented a new financing agreement worth 50 million euros as a significant step in the transition to a sustainable economy. The majority of the funding is provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with the remainder provided in cooperation with the Taiwan ICDF.
This new financing will facilitate businesses' access to technologies that will reduce their environmental impact and aims to overcome financial barriers to long-term "green" investments. The resource is offered within the framework of the Turkey Green Economy Financing Facility III (GEFF III). Under this program, companies will be able to invest in projects that provide energy savings and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
One of the notable points in the agreement is that at least 30 percent of the fund will be allocated to green projects in regions severely affected by the earthquakes in February 2023. Thus, it will contribute to making the reconstruction processes of businesses in these regions more resilient and sustainable.
In addition, Garanti BBVA Leasing will organize gender-focused implementation and training programs within the scope of the agreement. With these trainings, the technical capacities of firms in green transformation processes will be increased and their access to new technologies will be improved.
A JOINT GREEN VISION FROM GARANTİ BBVA LEASING AND EBRD
Making an assessment on the subject, Garanti BBVA Leasing General Manager Orhan Veli Çaycı stated the following: "Thanks to this financing, which will support investments in green and resource-efficient technologies, we will contribute to the transition processes of businesses to a low-carbon economy while also increasing their resilience against the challenges they may face in the future. We also find it extremely valuable that this financing will contribute to the reconstruction and sustainable development of the regions affected by the earthquake."
Çaycı also pointed out that sustainability is a strategic priority for their institution, stating that they will continue to support Turkey's green transformation and sustainable growth journey with determination.
EBRD Turkey Deputy Head Oksana Yavorskaya emphasized that the project is a new example of the strong cooperation that has been ongoing with Garanti BBVA Leasing for years. She pointed out that this green financing provided to businesses in the earthquake-affected regions will increase access to climate-friendly technologies and give companies the chance to invest in a cleaner, more resilient future.
According to the statements made by the institutions, Garanti BBVA Leasing's operations continue in the earthquake zone. Thanks to the financial support provided, the aim is for companies in the region to restructure with a focus on sustainability and efficiency.
With the financing and training practices to be carried out within the scope of the agreement, it is aimed to increase both technical and social capacity and to spread a more resilient, eco-friendly economic structure across Turkey.
