A first in Turkey: Working hours reduced to 40 hours in that municipality
A collective labor agreement supplementary protocol has been signed between Mezitli Municipality and the DİSK Genel İş Union, covering employees operating under the 'Mutlu Mezitli Company'. With the protocol, the weekly working hours for workers were reduced from 45 to 40 hours, and improvements were made in various financial matters.

Mezitli Municipality and the DİSK Genel İş Union held a signing ceremony at the municipality's assembly hall. It was stated that the agreement, which is valid until July 4, provides improvements in rights such as bonuses, holiday allowances, meal allowances, and similar benefits.
"WE HAVE IMPROVED THE RIGHTS OF OUR WORKERS"
Stating that they provide the highest wages in line with the conditions determined by law, Mezitli Mayor Neşet Tarhan said, “I would like to underline that the agreement we will sign today is an ‘Additional Protocol’. We determined the highest limit of the 40 percent quota set by the government for this additional protocol together with our union officials. We support our personnel at certain times. We provided clothing assistance. In addition, at the beginning of the year, we made a payment of 1,000 TL to the accounts of all our personnel without anyone knowing. With the additional protocol we made, we increased the bonus, which was 12 per year, to 36 daily wages. We increased the meal allowance, which was 70 TL per day, to 200 TL. We have increased the meal allowance alone to 3,400 TL. We increased the Ramadan Feast bonus from 400 TL to 2,000 TL. We also increased the Eid al-Adha bonus from 600 TL to 3,000 TL. We have also improved some of our workers' rights. I wish it to be beneficial in advance”.
Evaluating the additional protocol, DİSK Genel İş Mersin Branch President Kemal Göksoy said, “We have collective labor agreements at certain periods. To date, we have signed very good collective labor agreements with our Mezitli Municipality. We reduced the working time, which was 45 hours, to 40 hours. We signed a collective labor agreement with our Mezitli Municipality that has very good conditions across Turkey. We decided to sign our agreement with our municipality with a new additional protocol. With the additional protocol, we will have made improvements to our rights. There is a limit set by the government on the figures we determine. You cannot spend 40 percent of the municipalities' income on personnel. We cannot exceed this quota. This must be understood very well. I wish this protocol we signed to be beneficial to our workers in advance, and I would like to thank everyone who contributed”.
