A record-breaking week at Borsa Istanbul: The winners and losers have been revealed
This week, stocks that brought smiles to investors' faces and those that caused disappointment stood out in the BIST 100 index. As the index continued its upward trend, some companies achieved record returns, while others drew attention with their losses.

The week of January 19-23 was once again active at Borsa Istanbul. The BIST 100 index rose by 2.56 percent at the end of the week to reach 12,992.71 points. While the lowest level of the week was 12,575.67, the peak was recorded at 13,030.83 points. Thus, the upward trend that has been ongoing since the beginning of the year continued.
THE IMPACT OF THE INTEREST RATE DECISION AND GLOBAL DATA
While economic data from the US was being monitored abroad, the interest rate decision announced domestically initially caused short-term declines. However, the index subsequently reached historic levels and finished the week with a record. Banking stocks rose by 5.77 percent, holding stocks by 3.23 percent, and industrial stocks by 2.61 percent.
THE TOP PERFORMING STOCKS OF THE WEEK
The company that gained the most on the BIST 100 this week was Gübretaş (GUBRF). Gübretaş shares saw an increase of 22.56 percent. Kiler Holding (KLRHO) took second place with a gain of 20.82 percent. These two companies were followed by Eczacıbaşı İlaç (ECILC) with an 18.64 percent rise.
THE BIGGEST LOSERS
In contrast, Gen İlaç (GENIL) was the stock that lost the most value during the week, with a decline of 15.40 percent. Efor Yatırım (EFOR) and Otokar (OTKAR) were among the top stocks finishing the week with losses of 12.40 percent and 12.32 percent, respectively.
COMPANIES AT THE TOP IN MARKET CAPITALIZATION
In terms of market capitalization on the stock exchange, Aselsan (ASELS) maintained its top position with 1 trillion 371 billion 420 million TL. Kiler Holding (KLRHO) reached a market value of 716 billion 625 million TL to move into second place, while Garanti BBVA (GARAN) came in third with 635 billion 460 million TL.
THE LION'S SHARE IN TRADING VOLUME
Last week, the total trading volume on the BIST 100 index exceeded 997 billion 205 million TL. Aselsan took the lion's share in terms of trading volume. While 116 billion 427 million TL worth of transactions were made in ASELS shares, it was followed by Turkish Airlines (THYAO) with 84 billion 453 million TL and İş Bankası (ISCTR) with 56 billion 809 million TL in trading volume.
