Bad news for those awaiting gradual retirement: No new regulation on the agenda
Following the EYT regulation, no concrete steps have been taken by the government regarding the demand for gradual retirement, which has been brought to the agenda by millions of workers. While AKP sources remain distant from a new regulation, citing economic costs, it is noted that political pressure that may arise during the election process could bring the issue back to the agenda.

It is stated that there is no new legal work on the government side regarding the gradual retirement demand, which came back to the agenda following the EYT (Retirement Age Trapped) regulation.
According to a report by Canan Sakarya from Ekonomi Gazetesi, AKP sources state that they are not keen on taking a new step that would impose additional costs on the social security system under current economic conditions.
In party corridors, the assessment that the EYT regulation, which was enacted before the 2023 elections, created a serious burden on the budget and social security balances, stands out. For this reason, it is reported that the economic management is also keeping its distance from new and cost-increasing regulations.
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek had also drawn attention to the effects of the earthquake, Currency-Protected Deposit (KKM), and EYT on the economy in 2023 during the Medium-Term Program (OVP) meeting. There was no calendar for gradual retirement in the OVP or in the recent statements of the economic management.
On the other hand, it is discussed in political circles that if the election process begins, public opinion polls and demands from the field could be effective in decision-making processes. The possibility that a political assessment could be made at the final stage, as in the case of EYT, is not completely ruled out.
It is known that the Association for Justice in Retirement (EMADDER) met with Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security Ahmet Aydın last month to convey their demands. However, no official study or calendar has been announced by the Ministry regarding the issue.
Employees who started their insurance after September 8, 1999, are demanding that age and premium conditions be regulated gradually. According to EMADDER, this issue concerns approximately 4.5 million workers.
