YouTube is changing its monetization requirements for content creators looking to earn income through the platform. With the new regulation, higher thresholds will be applied for watch hours on long-form videos and view counts on Shorts content.

According to the information provided, under the current practice, it was sufficient for channels to reach at least 1,000 subscribers and complete 4,000 watch hours or reach 10 million Shorts views to earn income from YouTube.

In the new system, channels that want to activate the monetization feature will need to reach 8,000 watch hours in the last year or achieve 20 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.

It was stated that the new regulation regarding viewing criteria will begin to be implemented as of February 1. It was reported that YouTube has indicated the change will not cover content creators already in the Partner Program.

For the short video format Shorts, viewing performance will also gain importance in order to continue earning income. In the new period, channels will need to maintain a level of 10 million views over 90-day periods.

It was also stated that YouTube, which operates under Google, will make the Premium Lite subscription package available in more countries around the world.
