Bad news for vehicle owners: Price hikes coming for gasoline, diesel, and LPG

Expectations for new increases in fuel prices due to the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) have come to the fore as of October 1, 2026. If the expectations materialize, a price hike of 12.47 TL per liter for gasoline, 3.60 TL for diesel, and 1.48 TL for LPG autogas is expected to be reflected at the pump.

It is stated that a new scenario for pump prices may emerge due to the end of the sliding scale (eşel mobil) system for gasoline and the continuation of the gradual ÖTV increase policy for diesel. With the high increase expectation for gasoline, it is suggested that the price per liter could exceed 90 TL in some regions.

EXPECTED INCREASES

According to the expectations reported by Petros, an increase stemming from the ÖTV is anticipated for the three main fuel products on October 1. It is also noted that an additional increase in LPG autogas, stemming from the product price itself, may come to the agenda in the first week of October.

A gradual ÖTV application had previously been implemented for diesel. As of August 13, 2026, the ÖTV on diesel was applied as zero for the remainder of August; it was decided to increase it by 3 TL each month until the end of the year. In this context, the ÖTV amount on diesel is expected to rise to 6 TL in October.

While the new ÖTV amount on diesel is expected to be reflected at the pump as 3.60 TL including VAT (KDV), the sliding scale system had previously been abolished for this product group.

For gasoline and LPG, a method based on covering increases in refinery prices through the ÖTV was applied until September 30. The expectation that this system will be abolished as of October 1 and that a transition to free-market pricing will occur has brought a higher price hike calculation to the agenda, especially for gasoline.

Journalist Olcay Aydilek stated in a post on his social media account: "ÖTV hikes on fuel on October 1: The ÖTV on diesel will increase by another 3 TL. Including 20 percent VAT, a 3 TL 60 kuruş hike will be reflected at the pump. The sliding scale system will end for gasoline, and a 12 TL 48 kuruş hike will come to the agenda. An increase between 1-1.5 TL is also expected for LPG as the sliding scale system will end for it as well."

As of September 30, 2026, the price of a liter of gasoline is 80.40 TL, diesel is 93.50 TL, and LPG is 34.99 TL on the European side of Istanbul. On the Anatolian side, gasoline is sold at 80.30 TL, diesel at 93.30 TL, and LPG at 34.40 TL.

In Ankara, the price of a liter of gasoline is 81.40 TL, diesel is 94.60 TL, and LPG is 35.09 TL; in İzmir, gasoline is applied at 81.70 TL, diesel at 94.90 TL, and LPG at 34.99 TL. If the expected increases take effect, the new prices are projected to be reflected on the signs starting October 1.
