BİSAM announces: Poverty line nears 50 thousand liras

The United Metal Workers' Union Class Research Center (BİSAM) has announced the hunger and poverty thresholds for November. 

In the report, based on the expenditure amount for a family of 4, the monthly expenditure required for a family to have a healthy and balanced diet was stated as 13,745 liras.

The report notes that this expenditure amount is only the minimum required for food, and according to the results of calculations based on household consumption expenditures over the hunger threshold, the poverty line reached 47,544 liras.

HUNGER THRESHOLD EXCEEDS MINIMUM WAGE BY 2,342 LIRAS

The report states that the monthly cost of food required for an adult male to have a healthy and balanced diet is 3,753 liras, while it is 3,603 liras for an adult female, 3,860 liras for a teenager aged 15-18, and 2,528 liras for a child aged 4-6.

The report, which determined the total cost of healthy nutrition for a family budget to be 13,745 liras, noted that this amount is only the mandatory expenditure required for food. According to the report, the total expenditure a family must make, including expenses such as education, health, housing, entertainment, heating, and transportation, has reached 47,544 liras.
