Booking pays 94 million euros
Booking, which provides online reservation services for accommodation, has paid 94 million euros to resolve a dispute with Italy over its failure to file VAT returns between 2013 and 2021.

According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the Netherlands-based company Booking.com has made a payment of 94 million euros to the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) through a membership procedure to end a dispute regarding the failure to file VAT returns for the 2013-2021 period and to avoid the seizure of its assets. Thus, the tax dispute between Italy and Booking has come to an end.
Within the scope of an investigation launched by the Genoa Public Prosecutor's Office in October 2022, the Italian Financial Police had determined that Booking had not filed VAT returns for the period covering those years. Furthermore, in Italy this week, as part of an investigation into the US-based short-term accommodation platform Airbnb on suspicion of tax evasion, more than 779 million euros belonging to 3 individuals who held administrative positions at Airbnb Ireland Unlimited Company, where the company's European revenues are collected, were seized.
