Borsa Istanbul opens the day at a record high: Global risk appetite carries the market to the peak

The BIST 100 index, which closed yesterday with a 0.88 percent gain at 14,495 points, entered the new day with an increase of 181.49 points compared to the previous close. With the opening session, the banking index gained 2.01 percent, while the holding index gained 0.97 percent. While a positive trend prevailed across sector indices, the financial leasing and factoring index was the top gainer of the opening with a 2.37 percent rise, while the securities investment trust index was the biggest decliner with a 1.19 percent drop.

Analysts state that from a technical perspective, if the rise in the BIST 100 index continues, the 14,700 and 14,800 levels will be monitored as resistance, while 14,500 and 14,400 points will be followed as support in case of possible pullbacks.

GLOBAL DEVELOPMENTS INCREASING RISK APPETITE IN MARKETS

The decision by US President Donald Trump to temporarily halt the Freedom Project, an initiative to assist the passage of ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, was effective in reviving risk appetite in foreign markets. Trump's announcement following this decision that significant progress had been made toward reaching a final agreement with Iran was met positively in global markets. In addition to this geopolitical easing, strong corporate earnings supporting technology stocks also gave the markets additional momentum. While experts emphasize that it is too early to say that geopolitical risks have completely disappeared in the short term, they predict that the reduction in tension and possible pullbacks in oil prices could ease the markets. Today, new statements from the US-Iran front, the course of oil prices, and expectations for technology companies during the earnings season will be decisive in maintaining risk appetite.
