As increases in energy costs continue in Turkey, the price of gas sold by BOTAŞ to bread producers has been raised by 21.59 percent.

According to Sözcü, this increase is expected to be reflected in bread prices in the coming weeks.

On April 5, a 25 percent increase was made to electricity tariffs, and natural gas prices for industrial consumers were also raised by 20 percent. Following these hikes, a decision was made to increase the gas price for bread producers as well. As reported by journalist Olcay Aydilek, the unit gas price has risen from 8.54 TL to 10.39 TL.

Bread prices vary regionally across Turkey. The Istanbul Bakers' Chamber had set the price of a 200-gram loaf of bread at 12.5 TL in January. However, many bakeries have been selling bread for 15 TL by applying a hidden price hike. Following this increase in gas prices, the Istanbul Bakers' Chamber is expected to officially raise bread prices to 15 TL.
