Bread price hike on the way
Halil İbrahim Balcı, President of the Turkish Bakers Federation, stated that bread prices may increase in January due to the new minimum wage and rising costs.

At the beginning of November, the 'Maximum Bread Price Tariff', prepared with the provision that 'the price of 1 kilogram of bread shall not exceed 40 TL, making 200 grams of bread 8 TL', was accepted in Istanbul.
Despite this, bread prices in Istanbul are being sold at 8 TL in some districts and 10 TL in others.
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül reacted to the fact that bread prices vary from district to district, stating, "In order not to victimize our citizens, I invite our Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and our municipalities to conduct effective price inspections."
Speaking to Halk TV, Turkish Bakers Federation President Halil İbrahim Balcı addressed the varying bread prices in the city. Emphasizing that bread prices could increase in January along with the minimum wage, Balcı stated that inspections must be carried out against price discrepancies.
Balcı spoke as follows:
"There are businesses in Istanbul that make bread 240-250 grams and sell it for 10 TL. If a loaf of bread is sold for 8 liras, it should be like this everywhere in Istanbul. Even if the weight is higher, it is not right to sell it for 10 liras.
It is sold for 10 liras in 4-5 districts. It is not 10 liras in chain markets. It needs to be corrected as soon as possible with inspections.
Costs are rising, flour prices are rising, and with the increase in the minimum wage, there will be a wage difference. Whatever the increase in the minimum wage, the wages given to employees will increase at that rate. The difference in the minimum wage and the constant increase in flour prices will create a serious cost increase. There may be an increase in bread prices in January."
