The Minimum Wage Determination Commission will hold its first meeting of the year today. The TÜRK-İŞ delegation is making a statement after arriving to deliver a letter to Minister Işıkhan before the meeting at 14:00.
TÜRK-İŞ – Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions Vice President Ramazan Ağar has arrived at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. TÜRK-İŞ Vice President Ağar came to the ministry to present a letter. TÜRK-İŞ will not participate in the Minimum Wage Determination Commission.
Highlights from Ramazan Ağar's statement:
"Today is the first meeting day. As in the past, we were invited to the meeting today. We had stated that we would not participate if there was no change in the commission.
TÜRK-İŞ has been representing workers since 1974. However, the structure of the commission is such that decisions are made by the votes of government and employer representatives without taking workers into account.
TÜRK-İŞ shared its decision not to participate in the commission's work on December 24, 2024.
Price hikes in electricity, natural gas, and water are increasing this pressure. Workers and their families, especially regarding essential consumption, have had to struggle with consecutive price increases.
The worker's purchasing power is being strained.
This economic picture has also put retirees who have paid premiums for years in a difficult situation. The Gross National Product is rising in Turkey, but it is not being reflected in the broad segments of society, including retirees and employees.
The gap between the rich and the poor is constantly widening. One segment is struggling to meet their basic needs."
