The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) has shared its data for the December 2023 period. According to the shared data, as of the end of December, the total assets of the banking sector reached 23 trillion 519 billion 337 million TL. The sector's total assets increased by 9 trillion 171 billion 947 million TL compared to the end of 2022.

In the December 2023 period, loans, which constitute the largest asset item, amounted to 11 trillion 677 billion 135 million TL, while securities totaled 3 trillion 969 billion 830 million TL.

INCREASE RECORDED IN 2023

Compared to the end of 2022, the banking sector's total assets increased by 63.9 percent, total loans by 54 percent, and total securities by 67.4 percent. During this period, the non-performing loan ratio was 1.60 percent. Among the banks' resources, deposits, which are the largest source of funds, increased by 67.6 percent compared to the end of 2022, reaching 14 trillion 851 billion 970 million TL.

Compared to the end of 2022, total equity increased by 50.9 percent to 2 trillion 121 billion 581 million TL, while as of the end of December, the sector's net profit for the period was 603 billion 634 million TL. The sector had reported a net profit of 431.6 billion TL in 2022. The capital adequacy standard ratio stood at 18.85 percent.
