Camshafts produced with wind energy to be exported worldwide

ESTAŞ, which operates in Sivas and produces camshafts for global industry giants, is advancing toward its carbon-neutral goal with the Wind Power Plant it has begun to install.

Estaş, a pioneer in camshaft production, will generate the energy it uses from wind power. Estaş Eksantrik Sanayi ve Tic. A.Ş., which owns Turkey's first and largest camshaft production facility, has begun the installation of the largest unlicensed wind turbine in Turkey in Balıkesir. By meeting all of its energy consumption needs from this wind turbine, Estaş will have taken a significant step toward its carbon-neutral goal.

Providing information about the facility being established, Osman Mavuş, General Manager of Estaş Eksantrik Sanayi ve Tic. A.Ş., stated, "While we are producing, we actually need to know how much carbon we produce in our own lives. We all have a carbon footprint. When we look at the manufacturing sector, the most important source of this carbon is energy. That is, approximately 1 kW of energy consumption releases an average of half a kilogram of carbon. We decided to start with energy and incorporate renewable energy into Estaş's consumption. Of course, the most important part of renewable energy sources in this regard is wind power plants (WPPs). Our country has great potential in this area. We have made our investment in Balıkesir and are about to complete it. Probably by the summer of next year, Estaş Eksantrik Sanayi A.Ş. will have met all of the energy it consumes from renewable sources. This is very important because it will reduce our carbon footprint by around 70 percent. Of course, if all industrial organizations make and complete their investments in this regard, our country will have fulfilled this goal when we look at it globally."

The largest turbine in Turkey
Emphasizing that the investment in question is of a type usually made by companies focused on energy production, Mavuş said, "ESTAŞ's investment here was also in the field of WPPs. It is a type of investment usually made by commercial firms that produce larger amounts of energy. With the opportunities provided by our state, it has become possible to do this on an unlicensed basis. Estaş has taken on a pioneering role in this regard and has begun the installation of the largest turbine currently built as unlicensed in Turkey. This turbine of ours covers an area of approximately 20 decares. It has a capacity large enough to produce all of our company's energy. And it has paved the way for this. In other words, some of the resources we used for solar power plants (SPPs) have now begun to be used for WPPs in this way."
