Card payments exceeded 1 trillion liras in February
According to data from the Interbank Card Center (BKM), 843.1 billion liras of card payments were made with credit cards, 150.3 billion liras with debit cards, and 19 billion liras with prepaid cards. Meanwhile, the 1 trillion lira level was exceeded on a monthly basis for the first time in February.

The Interbank Card Center (BKM) has announced its data for February. Accordingly, as of February, the number of credit cards in Turkey rose to 120.4 million, the number of debit cards to 191.2 million, and the number of prepaid cards to 91.8 million.
Compared to February of last year, there was an 18 percent increase in the number of credit cards, an 11 percent increase in the number of debit cards, and a 23 percent increase in the number of prepaid cards. The total number of cards increased by 15 percent, reaching 403.4 million.
The total payment amount made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in February increased by 152 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.01 trillion liras. While 843.1 billion liras of the payments were made with credit cards, 150.3 billion liras were made with debit cards, and 19 billion liras were made with prepaid cards.
The growth rate in payments was 166 percent for credit cards, 94 percent for debit cards, and 184 percent for prepaid cards.
The total number of payments made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in February increased by 38 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.36 billion. Of these payments, 763.3 million were made with credit cards, 491.1 million with debit cards, and 106.6 million with prepaid cards.
The growth rate in the number of payments compared to the same period last year was recorded as 41 percent for credit cards, 27 percent for debit cards, and 79 percent for prepaid cards.
177 PERCENT INCREASE IN ONLINE CARD PAYMENTS
Online card payments increased by 177 percent compared to the same period last year, approaching 294 billion liras. The share of online card payments in the total was 26 percent.
The number of online card payments increased by 39 percent to 203 million, while the share of online card payments in the total was 15 percent.
The number of contactless payments made with cards increased by 62 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 856.9 million. The contactless payment amount rose by 188 percent to 290.6 billion liras. In February, 3 out of every 4 card payments made in-store were contactless.
