First message from CBRT Governor Fatih Karahan: 'We will absolutely not allow it'

The following statements were included in the press release issued by the Central Bank:

HE GAVE A MESSAGE ON INFLATION

"With the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette dated February 3, 2024, and numbered 32449, Dr. Fatih Karahan, who has been serving as Deputy Governor since July 28, 2023, has been appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey.

Governor Fatih Karahan made the following assessments after his appointment:

'The primary objective and priority of our Central Bank is to ensure price stability. In this direction, we are determinedly continuing our efforts to achieve disinflation with our strong team. We are committed to maintaining the necessary monetary tightness until inflation declines to levels consistent with our target. We are closely monitoring inflation expectations and pricing behaviors. We will absolutely not allow any deterioration in the inflation outlook.'

Dr. Karahan will hold an information meeting at the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey Headquarters on Thursday, February 8, at 10:30 AM to present the first Inflation Report of 2024."
