Central Bank's reserves approach record level

The CBRT's total reserves reached 188.4 billion dollars in the week of August 21, an increase of 4.9 billion dollars; the rise was driven by gold reserves.

According to the weekly money and banking statistics of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), total reserves increased by 4 billion 949 million dollars in the week of August 21 compared to the previous week.

Thus, the CBRT's total reserves rose from 183 billion 500 million dollars to 188 billion 449 million dollars.

In the same week, gross foreign exchange reserves decreased by 938 million dollars, falling from 75 billion 166 million dollars to 74 billion 228 million dollars. Gold reserves, on the other hand, increased by 5 billion 886 million dollars, rising from 108 billion 334 million dollars to 114 billion 221 million dollars.

The data showed that the weekly increase in total reserves was driven by the strong rise in gold reserves, despite the decline in foreign exchange reserves.
