The Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) is preparing to implement a new regulation on money transfers to combat unregistered money movements and prevent the laundering of proceeds of crime. Accordingly, starting from January 1, 2026, it will be mandatory to state the reason for the transaction in writing for money transfers above a certain amount.
With the communiqué published in August, it was stipulated that users must enter an explanation consisting of at least 20 characters for money transfers made via mobile banking, internet banking, and ATMs that exceed a total amount of 200 thousand TL. A significant revision has come to the agenda shortly before the start of this practice, which makes a declaration regarding the reason for the transfer mandatory.
LOWER LIMIT IS BEING RAISED
According to the report by Dünya newspaper, the lower limit set in the regulation, which is planned to come into effect on January 1, 2026, has been reconsidered. The fact that the 200 thousand TL limit could cover daily routine transactions due to current economic conditions and inflation has created a need for change.
In this context, it is stated that the economic administration plans to increase the money transfer limit, which was initially set at 200 thousand TL, to 400 thousand liras.
