CHP Deputy Chairman Responsible for the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Deniz Yavuzyılmaz, has announced a significant development regarding the refund of unfair electricity bill hikes. Yavuzyılmaz stated that the electricity price hike implemented by the AKP starting February 1, 2025, has been found to be defective by the Consumer Arbitration Committee.

In line with this decision, he stated that citizens can file individual applications to recover the excess amounts they paid, along with interest.

In a statement made via social media, Yavuzyılmaz provided a sample petition to citizens and called on them to apply to the Consumer Arbitration Committee with their high electricity bills. He emphasized that this step offers an opportunity for the refund of unfairly collected bill amounts.

Yavuzyılmaz's post is as follows:

'Good news for all our citizens!

Our struggle has yielded results.

We had called for objections to be filed with Consumer Arbitration Committees regarding the massive hike the AK Party imposed on residential electricity bills starting February 1, 2025.

We had shared a sample objection petition with the public.

The result:

The AK Party's massive electricity bill hike was found to be defective by the Consumer Arbitration Committee!

It was decided that the defective hike amount should be refunded to the applicant citizen with interest.

The path to canceling exorbitant bill hikes through individual applications has been opened.

What happened?

A 96% hike was applied to the bills of residential subscribers whose electricity usage exceeded 5,000 kWh in 2024, starting from 2025.

However, the information regarding which consumption amounts would be subject to the hike for residences was announced to the public on November 7, 2024.

In other words, the notification was made too late for citizens to take precautions regarding their electricity consumption amounts.

The AK Party knowingly and intentionally set a price hike trap for citizens!

We objected to this robbery!

With the petition prepared by the Chamber of Electrical Engineers that we shared;

On March 22, 2025, one of our citizens filed an objection regarding the issue in Mersin.

Then the Consumer Arbitration Committee made its decision:

It found the electricity hike imposed by the AK Party to be defective!

It decided that the defective hike amount of 2,305 TL should be refunded to the citizen along with legal interest.

I am calling on all our citizens who have been victimized by the hike!

You can file an individual application to the Consumer Arbitration Committee with the sample petition I shared here and your high electricity bills.

In this way, you can get a refund of the unfairly collected bill amounts.

Let us seek our rights, let us use our right to object!'
