CHP Deputy Chairman responsible for the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and Zonguldak Deputy Deniz Yavuzyılmaz has warned that electricity prices could rise if the Çayırhan Thermal Power Plant and Mine are privatized.
Yavuzyılmaz stated that a decrease in the public sector's share of electricity production would drive up market prices, which would in turn be reflected in electricity bills as price hikes.
In a post on his X account, Yavuzyılmaz said, "The privatization tender for the Çayırhan thermal power plant and mining fields, which are operated by the public with high profits, is taking place today. If this tender process is not canceled, the public's share in our country's electricity production will fall below 17%, which will increase market energy prices and be reflected as a hike in electricity bills in the coming months. Stop the tender immediately!"
Calling for the privatization process to be halted, Yavuzyılmaz emphasized that this step could prevent negative impacts that would otherwise be passed on to consumers in the future.
Yavuzyılmaz's post is as follows:
Kamu eliyle yüksek karla işletilen Çayırhan termik santralinin ve maden sahalarının bugün özelleştirme ihalesi var.
