Citizens are loading up on cards: 78 percent increase in August
The total payment amount made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in August reached 1 trillion 420.6 billion TL, showing a 78 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

According to Interbank Card Center (BKM) data, as of August, there are 125.9 million credit cards, 191.7 million debit cards, and 101.3 million prepaid cards in Turkey.
Compared to August 2023, there was a 13 percent increase in the number of credit cards, a 5 percent increase in the number of debit cards, and a 22 percent increase in the number of prepaid cards. The total number of cards reached 418.9 million, an 11 percent rise compared to the same period last year.
1.4 TRILLION LIRA IN SPENDING
In August, the total payment amount made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards reached 1 trillion 420.6 billion TL, showing a 78 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
While 1,192.4 billion TL of card payments were made with credit cards, 200.4 billion TL were made via debit cards, and 27.8 billion TL via prepaid cards. There was an 83 percent increase in credit card payments, a 48 percent increase in debit card payments, and a 104 percent increase in prepaid card payments compared to the same period last year.
The total number of payments made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in August increased by 12 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1.61 billion transactions.
While 927.4 million of the card payments were made with credit cards, debit cards were used for 556.1 million transactions, and prepaid cards for 114.5 million.
While the number of payments made with credit cards saw a 15 percent increase compared to the same period last year, the increase in the number of payments made with debit cards was recorded at 3 percent. The growth rate in the number of payments made with prepaid cards was 32 percent.
78 PERCENT INCREASE IN ONLINE CARD PAYMENTS
Online card payments, which showed a 78 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, reached 413.3 billion TL. The share of online card payments in total payments was 28 percent.
The number of online card payments increased by 6 percent compared to the same period last year, rising to 217.9 million transactions. The share of online card payments in the total number of transactions is 14 percent.
