Citizens form long queues after seeing 'Traca' fish from the Black Sea for 25 liras

A fish queue formed in the Pazar district of Rize. The price of the traca, sold for 25 liras, astonished those who saw it. Citizens, finding the price of the traca—which fishmongers sold by shouting 'The dried beans of the sea'—to be cheap, raced against each other to buy it. 40 crates of fish, totaling 600 kilograms, were sold out in a short time.

Stating that they launched a special campaign for the month of Ramadan and that consumers showed great interest, fishmonger Turgay Şimşek said, "We held such a campaign for Ramadan, and 40 crates of fish were sold out within 40 minutes. It was 75 liras per kilogram before; we dropped it to 25 TL and it sold out immediately. May our citizens enjoy their meal."

WHAT IS A TRACA?

Known as 'trança' or 'traca', it is a species of horse mackerel from the Trachuridae family. These fish prefer to live in warm and temperate waters. Traca fish are known as creatures that live alone in shallow waters in mossy and rocky areas. The jaw structures and teeth of these fish are quite strong.

Traca fish attract attention with their small size and bright colors. Although the sizes of these fish vary depending on the species and habitat, they can reach lengths ranging from 10 cm to 25 cm on average. The bodies of traca fish are thin and slightly flattened, which gives them the ability to move quickly in the water. Their colors vary depending on the species and are generally in shades of silver, blue, green, and red, with spotted or striped patterns on their sides. The traca fish feeds on marine life such as sardines, chub mackerel, squid, octopus, and shrimp. The trança fish enters its breeding season in the summer months. The traca fish is a type of fish that exhibits hermaphroditic characteristics.
