Claims of an additional pension hike before the elections: Şeref Oğuz gives a figure for the lowest pension!

Evaluating the recent pension hikes, journalist Şeref Oğuz announced that he expects an additional raise before the elections for the approximately 6 million retirees receiving the lowest pension. Providing a specific figure, Oğuz stated, "This problem will not be solved with percentages, but with a specific amount."

While the raise rate for civil servants and civil servant retirees was set at 49.25 percent, this figure remained at 37.57 percent for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees.

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the additional raise rate expected by millions of retirees as 5 percent.

Declaring 2024 as the year of the retiree, Erdoğan also announced that the lowest pension has been increased from 7,500 TL to 10,000 TL.

While millions of retirees, who have been condemned to a starvation wage, reacted to the government's decision on the raise, journalist Şeref Oğuz said he expects a raise in pensions before the local elections.

Stating that the increase of the lowest pension to 10,000 liras is a major disappointment for the more than 6 million retirees who receive this amount, Oğuz said, "Retirees also get hungry, and their appetite is no lower than that of a working person. It is impossible for them to make a living with these amounts. Especially those retirees receiving a 10,000 TL salary are seriously uncomfortable. I am stating the principle of this matter; you cannot solve the problem of those receiving the lowest pension with percentage hikes."

'I EXPECT A CORRECTION IN MARCH'

According to the report by Ekonomim, stating that he expects a raise to be granted before the elections, especially for those receiving the lowest pension, Oğuz said, "I expect a correction in March, before the elections. Because these 6 million retirees vote! I think the salaries of these retirees will be raised to 14,431 TL, which is the hunger threshold announced by TÜRK-İŞ in December 2023. Of course, there is also a sharp edge here; for example, what will happen to those receiving 10,002 TL? In other words, a gradual increase for all retirees may also come to the agenda. I think the government will evaluate all alternatives."
