Competition Authority imposes multi-million lira fine on Canon

The Competition Authority has decided to impose an administrative fine of 38.3 million lira on Canon Eurasia Görüntüleme ve Ofis Sistemleri AŞ (Canon) on the grounds that it violated competition rules.

The Competition Authority's website provided information regarding the investigation process conducted into the company and the decision reached.

The statement noted that the company operates in the production and sale of optical products, including printing, copying, imaging, and photo-video products, as well as digital SLR cameras, digital video cameras, mirrorless compact system cameras, and interchangeable lens products.

The statement indicated that an investigation was launched into the entity on May 11, 2023, and that within this scope, it was investigated whether Canon had determined the resale prices of its products by interfering with the sales prices that its resellers or dealers should have determined independently.

The statement also mentioned that the oral defense meeting regarding the matter was held on June 4.

As a result of the evaluation, it was concluded that Canon violated Article 4 of Law No. 4054 by determining the prices of its resellers, and the statement noted that an administrative fine of 38 million 300 thousand 958 lira was imposed on the company.
