Date set for upcoming cigarette price hike

Erol Dündar, President of the Monopoly Dealers Solidarity Association (TBYD), announced in a statement to Elips Haber that a 5 TL price hike is coming to cigarettes, providing a specific date.

Stating that high alcohol and cigarette prices are driving people toward illicit products, Dündar said, "With every price hike period, there is a shift toward illicit alcohol and cigarettes. In the last 2 months, the number of people who died from counterfeit alcohol reached 113. The reason citizens are turning to illicit alcohol is financial."

Noting that there will be no price hikes for alcohol but that an increase is expected in cigarette prices, Dündar stated, "There will be no hike for alcohol. However, a 5 TL hike is expected for cigarettes in March."
