The additional time granted for the transition to the new type of driver's licenses has now passed. The initial deadline for the new licenses, which began being issued on January 1, 2016, was announced as December 31, 2020, and this date was extended four times to prevent citizens from facing difficulties. Following the final extension, the granted period expired completely as of yesterday.
According to data provided by ministry sources, 275 thousand 608 people applied in October following intense calls, and 40 thousand 771 people applied on the final day. Since the beginning of the process, 35 million 794 thousand 515 people have received their new type of driver's license, while 1 million 799 thousand 172 people have not completed the renewal process.
With the expiration of the period, the validity of old-type driver's licenses ended at the close of business yesterday. For those who delayed the renewal process, a new tariff is now in effect. Accordingly, the renewal fee for Class B driver's licenses, which was previously 15 Turkish Lira, has begun to be applied as 7 thousand 438 Turkish Lira and 60 kuruş.
