Deposit growth in the banking sector draws attention

According to data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the total deposits of the banking sector increased by 862 billion 457 million 378 thousand liras last week, reaching 27 trillion 671 billion 941 million 179 thousand liras.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) has published its weekly money and banking statistics. According to this data, the total deposits of the banking sector increased by 3.2 percent in the week ending December 12. The deposit amount rose from 26 trillion 809 billion 483 million 801 thousand liras to 27 trillion 671 billion 941 million 179 thousand liras.

During the same period, deposits in Turkish liras increased by 4.3 percent, reaching 15 trillion 154 billion 367 million 841 thousand liras. Deposits in foreign currency increased by 1.6 percent to 9 trillion 106 billion 445 million 159 thousand liras. While total foreign currency deposits in banks stood at 251 billion 798 million dollars, 214 billion 472 million dollars of this amount were held in the accounts of domestic residents. According to data adjusted for parity effects, an increase of 602 million dollars was recorded in the total foreign currency deposits of domestic residents.

INCREASE IN CONSUMER LOANS

Consumer loans in the banking sector for domestic residents increased by 1.2 percent last week, rising to 5 trillion 497 billion 578 million 826 thousand liras. Of these loans, 665 billion 955 million 502 thousand liras consisted of housing loans, 50 billion 279 million 772 thousand liras of vehicle loans, 2 trillion 108 billion 227 million 804 thousand liras of personal finance loans, and 2 trillion 673 billion 115 million 748 thousand liras of individual credit card debt.

Furthermore, the total loan volume of the banking sector, including the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, increased by 262 billion 889 million 424 thousand liras in the week ending December 12, rising to 21 trillion 818 billion 567 million 125 thousand liras.
