Despite diesel price cut, pump prices will remain unchanged

In a development concerning diesel users, it has been stated that the 2 lira 16 kuruş price cut, which will take effect at midnight, will not be reflected at the pump. Due to a tax regulation, the discount will not reach the drivers' pockets.

Fluctuations in exchange rates and international oil markets have once again led to activity in fuel prices in Turkey. Following consecutive price hikes in recent months, a discount is now being applied to diesel. However, according to industry representatives, this expected price drop will not create any change at the pump.

According to information obtained from the fuel sector, a discount of 2 lira 16 kuruş will be made on the liter price of diesel. However, due to a change in the sliding scale system (eşel mobil), this discount will be automatically transferred to the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV). For this reason, citizens will not observe any decrease in pump prices.

Diesel and other fuel prices are updated based on both fluctuations in Brent crude oil prices and the exchange rate. In addition, the applied tax mechanisms directly affect the final state of the prices. Experts emphasize that price drops in international markets are not always directly reflected to the driver in Turkey. This is because the current tax system leads to some or all of the discounts being directed to tax revenues rather than the price.
