E-commerce sector grew by 132 percent

The results of the Turkey E-Commerce Ecosystem Report have been announced. According to the report, the e-commerce sales volume in Turkey, which showed a growth of 132 percent in 2023, reached 1.855 trillion TL. Nearly 6 billion e-commerce transactions took place.

The results of the '2023 Turkey E-Commerce Ecosystem Report,' prepared in collaboration with iyzico, Dogma Alares, and the Association of Electronic Commerce Operators (ETİD), have been announced.

According to the report, e-commerce growth in Turkey has been increasing steadily since 2020. The e-commerce sales volume in Turkey, which showed a growth of 132 percent in 2023, reached 1.855 trillion TL.

Nearly 6 billion e-commerce transactions took place. Compared to previous years, the annual growth rate of the number of transactions in 2023 was 23 percent. The average basket size grew by 108 percent in 2023, increasing by 255 TL compared to the previous year to reach 492 TL.

PANDEMIC EFFECT

The growth rate of Turkey's e-commerce sales volume, which was 69 percent in 2021 following the pandemic, was 110 percent the following year. In 2023, the e-commerce sector grew by 132 percent, with its sales volume reaching 1.855 trillion TL. While the number of e-commerce transactions grew by 45 percent and 43 percent between 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 respectively, the annual growth rate of the number of transactions in 2023 was 23 percent, and nearly 6 billion e-commerce transactions took place.

When Turkey's e-commerce volume is evaluated in dollar terms, the e-commerce market, which grew by 64 percent between 2022-2023, reached 78 billion dollars at the end of 2023. With a volume value of approximately 1.9 trillion TL, e-commerce activities in Turkey corresponded to 6.8 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023.
