Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz responded to questions on many current issues, including the Israel-Palestine conflict, gold kept under the mattress, and loans to be provided to those who are about to get married.

According to a report by Hürriyet, Yılmaz stated regarding the conflicts between Israel and Palestine, “We are witnessing a worrying picture. Our President is a very experienced leader; as the most experienced leader in the region, he is showing a very moderate approach here. If moderation prevails, if tensions are lowered, and if issues are viewed through dialogue, the effects of this will remain limited. But conversely, if approaches that escalate the conflict gain strength, the negative effects of this will naturally be greater.”

GOLD KEPT UNDER THE MATTRESS

Stating that the work regarding gold kept under the mattress has been completed, he said, “A figure of over 300 billion dollars has emerged since the 1980s.” Noting that they are not saying “do not buy gold,” Yılmaz emphasized that what is important is for the gold to be included in the system. On the other hand, Yılmaz also underlined that buying dollars and keeping them at home actually means giving an interest-free loan to the USA, saying, “Keep it within the banking system so that it contributes to the economy. It has a two-way benefit; it provides income to the saver who holds it. Macro-economically, it also contributes to Turkey borrowing less. They should include their resources in the system both for their own benefit and for the benefit of society.”

STATEMENT REGARDING THE REGULATION ON RETIREE SALARIES

Regarding the 5 thousand lira bonus to be given to non-working retirees, Cevdet Yılmaz stated that they are under a heavy burden, especially due to earthquake expenditures, and assessed, “I wish we could do more. Recently, a very serious expectation and demand has emerged regarding our retirees. A step has been taken to relieve this to some extent. It is a very large group, of course. Every step we take has a very serious financial reflection. The impact of this latest decision is over 60 billion liras.” Yılmaz also reminded that another study will be conducted regarding retiree salaries towards the end of the year.

LOAN FOR NEWLYWEDS

Expressing that certain conditions will be set regarding the loan to be given to those who are about to get married, Yılmaz said, “We will start a pilot application in the earthquake zone. What the target audience and the system will be, there will be a certain age range. We worked on these with the Ministry of Family. It will be the first marriage. We will provide some training to those who will receive the loan.” Noting that the infrastructure for the 10 GB regulation for young people has been established, Yılmaz said, “An agreement has been reached with all three operators, and we have made a very reasonable agreement at the same price. The details are being finalized and it will start shortly. It will happen before the year ends.”
