In Ankara's Çukurambar neighborhood, an elderly woman rummaged through the trash container of a luxury residential complex located next to the Taurus Mall in the Balgat-Çukurambar area, where the AKP Headquarters is also situated.

According to a report by Yavuz Alatan from Sözcü; the elderly woman then sat on the street and sorted through the rotten vegetables, fruits, and stale bread she had collected from the trash bin, keeping what was still edible. She put them in a bag and took them home.

Low-income individuals struggling to make ends meet and retirees condemned to the lowest pensions often collect rotten vegetables and fruits—some of which are still edible—that are discarded near local markets, especially close to closing time. People rummaging through trash containers in search of food are frequently encountered.
