Economic crisis in Istanbul negatively affects citizens' mental health: Problems have moved into the home!

The February 2024 research results of the Istanbul Barometer have revealed concerning findings.

ECONOMIC CRISIS HAS MOVED INTO THE HOME

More than half of the Istanbul residents who participated in the survey (54.9%) stated that economic problems were at the top of their domestic agendas in February.

The research revealed that 26.5% of Istanbul residents are in a situation that would require psychological help.

However, more than half of these individuals stated that they could not receive the necessary support due to economic reasons. This situation shows that the economic crisis leaves deep impacts not only on finances but also on the mental health of individuals.

ISTANBUL CITIZENS ARE IN NEED OF PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT

Anxiety about the future and financial hardship stand out as the two most important factors in Istanbul residents' search for psychological support. 48.9% of participants stated that they need psychological support due to anxiety about the future, and 45.5% due to financial hardship.

The Istanbul Barometer's February 2024 research provides important data on how economic difficulties affect the domestic arguments and mental health of Istanbul residents. The increase in the need for psychological support among individuals struggling with economic difficulties, and the severity of the problem of not being able to receive this support, are noteworthy.
