The anxious wait continues for the minimum wage hike that concerns millions in Turkey. While no specific figures were discussed at the first meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission held on December 10, the expectations of both the employer and worker sides were brought to the agenda.
While the raise rate estimates of TİSK, which represents the employer side, have drawn attention, it is expected that figures will be put on the table at the critical second meeting.
EMPLOYER'S 40 PERCENT RAISE EXPECTATION
AGS Global, an independent research company, also announced its minimum wage raise estimates in its "2025 Business World Expectations" survey conducted with business owners in industrial and commercial cities.
According to the research, the average expectation of business world representatives for the minimum wage was a 40 percent increase to 23,750 TL.
MÜSİAD'S 25 PERCENT PROPOSAL HAD DRAWN REACTION
Following the MÜSİAD President's 25 percent raise proposal, the 40 percent rate began to be discussed on the employer side.
This rate was found to be more compatible with the raise expectations of the worker side and changed the course of the discussions on the minimum wage.
PREDICTION OF A YEAR OF REBALANCING IN THE ECONOMY
Business world representatives participating in the AGS Global research evaluate 2025 as a year of rebalancing.
However, there is also a pessimistic picture: While 49.5 percent of participants say the world economy will worsen, this rate rises to 58.4 percent for Turkey.
An optimism rate of 29.9 percent is at an equal level for both the world and Turkish economies.
INFLATION AND INTEREST RATE EXPECTATIONS
While 36.4 percent of participants expect a decrease in both inflation and interest rates, 37.7 percent express a negative view on this matter. While half of the business world representatives state that they will focus on maintaining the current situation in 2025, it is seen that digital transformation and exports are among the priority goals.
HYBRID WORKING MODEL STANDS OUT
Another data point that draws attention in the research was regarding working models in 2025.
While 56.8 percent of companies prefer working entirely in an office environment, 46 percent of employees adopt a hybrid working model.
The rate of those who prefer to work entirely from home is at the 17.6 percent level among employees.
