A new era is beginning with the "Consumer Services Regulation" approved at the latest board meeting of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA), aimed at protecting consumers and creating a more sustainable structure in the energy market. With the decision taken, it is aimed to create a more effective structure in the fight against illegal electricity usage.

Thus, EMRA aims to increase deterrence by raising the coefficient used in billing and through legislative improvements.

NOTIFICATION WILL BE SENT TO THE DEBTOR

In this context, it has been decided to prevent the initiation of legal proceedings for debts related to illegal electricity bills without notifying the debtor. Thus, it is aimed to make collection processes faster and more effective by ensuring that illegal usage bills are collected before reaching the legal follow-up stage.

Comprehensive regulations have also been put into effect in regions where the rate of illegal electricity usage is high, in order to prevent the victimization of legal consumers. Within this framework, new steps have been taken regarding repeated illegal consumption to strengthen the active and comprehensive fight against illegal electricity usage.

Eliminating payment problems arising from joint water usage for agricultural irrigation and increasing the collection rate in the regions in question also constituted one of the issues subject to the decision.

NO SECURITY DEPOSIT WILL BE COLLECTED FROM REGULAR PAYERS

EMRA has made a new regulation for consumers who make regular payments regarding the security deposit collected against the risk of non-payment of debts. With the decision taken, consumers who are determined to make their payments regularly will not pay a security deposit for new contracts they make in the same region. This step will encourage consumers to make regular payments.

In addition, consumers who make regular payments will be allowed to complete their subscription transactions without paying any security deposit. This regulation is expected to speed up subscription processes by providing convenience to consumers who have risk-free and regular payment habits.

CONSUMERS WILL BENEFIT FROM COMPETITIVE PRICES

With an important regulation that will facilitate the transition of residential consumers to the free market and reduce price differences between supply companies, the rate determined in the last resort supply tariff will be revised again. This rate, which was previously applied as 9.38 percent, will be applied as 5 percent for residential consumers.

With this regulation, it is foreseen that the transition to the free market will be encouraged and consumers will be able to benefit from more competitive prices. It is stated that the decision taken will make supply processes both more transparent and more attractive.
