Enterprises in transportation and storage activities stood out

In 2021, 58.7% of service exports and 55.4% of service imports were carried out by large-scale enterprises.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) has published the "International Trade in Services Statistics by Enterprise Characteristics, 2021" bulletin.

The bulletin, published for the first time by TURKSTAT, was prepared by matching international trade in services statistics (excluding travel) data with structural business statistics and foreign-controlled enterprise statistics data.

Accordingly, in 2021, 58.7% of service exports and 55.4% of service imports were conducted by large-scale enterprises.

Micro-scale enterprises with 1-9 employees, which accounted for 7.1% of service exports, made up 69.2% of the total enterprises engaged in service exports.

While the share of small-scale enterprises with 10-49 employees in service exports was 15.7%, the share of medium-scale enterprises with 50-249 employees was 18.3%. Large-scale enterprises with 250 or more employees, which make up 2.4% of the enterprises, accounted for 58.7% of service exports.

Micro-scale enterprises with 1-9 employees, which accounted for 53.3% of enterprises engaged in service imports, carried out 5.6% of service imports.

The share of small-scale enterprises with 10-49 employees in service imports was determined to be 9.4%, and the share of medium-scale enterprises with 50-249 employees was 17.2%. Large-scale enterprises with 250 or more employees, which make up 5% of enterprises engaged in service imports, carried out 55.4% of service imports.

Enterprises in transportation and storage activities stood out

It was determined that 23 billion 579 million dollars of the 34 billion 728 million dollars in service exports during the period in question were carried out by enterprises in transportation and storage activities.

Service exports by enterprises in information and communication activities were recorded at 3 billion 62 million dollars. While 2 billion 935 million dollars of service exports were made by enterprises in the manufacturing industry, service exports by enterprises whose main activity is finance and insurance were 1 billion 385 million dollars.

In service trade, 8 billion 978 million dollars of the 28 billion 64 million dollars in imports were made by enterprises operating in the manufacturing industry. 5 billion 389 million dollars of service imports were carried out by enterprises whose main activity is wholesale and retail trade, and 2 billion 181 million dollars by enterprises engaged in finance and insurance activities. Enterprises in information and communication activities imported 1 billion 928 million dollars in services.

It was recorded that 89.5% of exports and 85.1% of imports in transportation services, which have the highest share in service trade, were carried out by Turkish-controlled enterprises.

While the share of Turkish-controlled enterprises in telecommunications, computer, and information services exports was 49.5%, the share of foreign-controlled enterprises was 50.5%. 66.7% of imports of charges for the use of intellectual property and 52.7% of imports of other business services were carried out by foreign-controlled enterprises.
