Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan, who has been at the center of attention due to allegations raised regarding her family, attended the Economic Coordination Board (EKK) meeting chaired by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz.
While the allegations against Gaye Erkan have continued unabated, it had been claimed that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was 'uncomfortable' with the situation and that she might be dismissed before the local elections.
According to a report from Gazete Pencere by Tolga Balcı; it has been learned that Erdoğan will not dismiss Gaye Erkan before the elections.
Emphasizing that Gaye Erkan appeared 'cheerful' at the EKK meeting, Balcı stated, “While AKP sources in Ankara emphasize that Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan is at the helm, they indicate that there is no question of a resignation that could disturb the markets.”
Stating that the debates surrounding Gaye Erkan have been shelved until the elections and that there is no possibility of a change in economic management, Balcı included the remarks, “It is considered certain that Erdoğan and his team will not engage in any action that would cause volatility in the markets before the elections.”
