On the European side, European Central Bank (ECB) member Joachim Nagel stated on Friday that it was too early to consider interest rate cuts, while another member, Madis Muller, expressed that markets were acting prematurely by betting on policy easing in the first half of next year.
Analysts noted that the forward guidance from ECB members has dampened risk appetite in the markets, and that the "hawkish" stance in the Bank of England's (BoE) announcement following its interest rate decision has also pushed back expectations regarding a potential rate cut.
Stating that the emphasis by US Federal Reserve (Fed) officials that it is still too early to consider aggressive interest rate cuts has also reduced risk appetite in global equity markets, analysts noted that the Ifo business climate index in Germany stands out on today's data agenda.
